We can choose where it's going to reside. You can see it's selected down here on the left-hand side. Now we're ready to create a new notebook. Right now though, we'll go back to the dropdown and click add notebook. We'll talk more about Quick Notes a little later on. You can add your notes here and then put them where they need to be later on down the road. Maybe you're not sure where it's going to end up, in what notebook or what section or page, so it's kind of like a sticky note. This is a great place if you have an idea or something that you want to remember, you can jot it down here. Go ahead and click it and you'll see there's a tab called 'Quick Notes'. Quick Notes is an area that comes with OneNote. Now, before we go and click Add Notebook to create our first notebook, notice there's also something down below called Quick Notes. Now to create our first notebook, we can go to the notebooks drop down, click here, and you'll see some options like Add Notebook. This'll help you get familiar with OneNote quickly because a lot of it looks much like Microsoft Word and Excel, for example.

Notice it looks a lot like the other office apps with tabs across the top and a ribbon. So this is what we see a blank screen, basically. You'll see the same message I see, 'You don't have any open notebooks,' and you can go to the file and open option if you do have existing notebooks, but we haven't created one yet. Now, if you're like me and you haven't created any notebooks, nothing's open. Now we can go ahead and launch it by clicking OneNote the app. That way you'll always have quick and easy access to it here on the task bar. Now, if you want this to appear on your task bar, before you click it, why not right click it and choose pin to task bar. Now we're going to go with OneNote, the app, so we have access to all of the functionality.

There's a few other features missing but you will have access to it, and if you don't see either of these options on your menu, not to worry, you can go to /download to get a free copy of OneNote and install it on your computer. You'll be missing some things like templates, for example.

It comes with Windows, Windows 10, Windows 11 and this version of OneNote gives you almost all of the functionality of the OneNote app that comes with Microsoft Office. If you haven't installed Microsoft Office or you don't have a subscription to Microsoft 365, you might still see a OneNote option for Windows. That gives you all of the functionality of OneNote. In that case, you'll see OneNote the app. You might have your own personal Microsoft 365 account or you may have purchased Microsoft Office and installed it on your computer. It's part of a Microsoft 365 subscription that is through a business, so you might have that. OneNote, the app is my best match because I do have OneNote installed. You'll see a pop-up menu where we can start to type in OneNote, O N E, for example, you can see gives us some options. If you don't, no problem, we can go to the start button by clicking it here on the task bar or by hitting the Windows key on your keyboard. If you've installed Microsoft Office locally on your computer, you might see shortcut icons to the various Office apps including OneNote here on the task bar. Yours may be across the bottom of your screen.

Here in Windows, we can do that by going to the task bar. Well, it's time now to launch OneNote for the very first time and create our first notebook.
